The Story

This is a superb Notogoneus, a prehistoric ray-finned fish. It is a an exceptionally well preserved example of this uncommon species from the Green River Formation. Adding to the uniqueness of this piece is a dynamic band of iron staining on the matrix.

This fish swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA, 50 million years ago. It was discovered in the famous Green River Formation, which is known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils.

It took many hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator to reveal the fine bones. Surely, it was worth the effort to bring this ancient fish to life!

The slab of stone measures 24 3/8" x 15" ; fish measures 20"

Includes a sturdy plywood backing and system to hang slab flush on a wall.

Will be securely shipped in a wooden crate. We ship worldwide. Please contact us to receive a shipping estimate.
